    Jurassic Park

    Visual credit: universal

One of the best crowdpleasers from director Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park, is an undisputed classic. Based on Michael Crichton's novel of the same name, Jurassic Park depicts a world in which dinosaurs have been brought to life through the magic of cloning from prehistoric DNA. Dr. Hammond (Richard Attenborough) invites his grandchildren, his lawyer, two dinosaur experts (Sam Neill and Laura Dern) and a mathematician (Jeff Goldblum) to experience his extraordinary theme park before opening it to the general public. Of course things don't go smoothly, and soon there are several aggressive dinos on the run and on the hunt. Jurassic Park, with revolutionary visual effects that still last after 25 years, is a blood-curdling cinematographic triumph.

This Russian budget film with a large budget tells the true story of a pretty dramatic mission to save a damaged space station so that it does not fall to earth on the heads of the innocent, or, worse, is captured by the Americans and Is sent back to Earth to study advanced Russian space technology.

A gray veteran cosmonaut is combined with a younger engineering genius and sent to the unoccupied station, which is an exciting interstellarstyle & apos; match rotation with the outside of the control station and dock with it & apos; order. From there, it's a claustrophobic race against time and non-cooperating machines as they try to bring the station back to life. Everything goes wrong, bad, and the ride is part moving action and part ingenious ingenuity.

Most of the drama takes place in the tight station, offset by the mandatory cutbacks on the ground, where the supporting leader of Cosmonaut fights the government man who thinks the entire mission is foolish.

It really is the Russian Apollo 13, with all the tension of catastrophic equipment failures in confined spaces against technically incredible sets and effects. It is really beautiful to see – all space sequences are state-of-the-art – and apart from waving little red flag, it is played with a very straight technical arrow.

The theatrical conclusion of the beloved (but short-lived) television series Firefly, Serenity tied the various loose ends that were left after Joss Whedon ' s space cowboy show was postponed. Led by Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), the crew of the Serenity cargo ship is known for engaging in various smuggling adventures and obscure transactions across the galaxy.

Problems, however, come looking for them in the form of a hit man (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who goes to the river (Summer Glau), a gifted telepath and one of the crew members. As a cross between Star Wars (especially the Han Solo components) and Cowboy Bebop, Serenity is a public-friendly sci-fi campaigner with a lot of heart.

    War of the Worlds

    Credit: Paramount Pictures

Tom Cruise will do everything to protect his family against a complete alien invasion in War of the Worlds, the adaptation by Steven Spielberg of H.G. Wells & apos; classic science fiction novel. Spielberg, known as a master of excitement, takes the excitement to almost unbearable levels in the film, with numerous frightening set-pieces offered that includes something of his illustrious filmography (which includes Jaws, Jurassic Park and Saving Private Ryan).

Using images inspired by the September 11 attacks (the invading Tripods shoot people in white ashes) and Hurricane Katrina (desperate people become violent against each other in an attempt to survive their horrific circumstances), War of the Worlds is far removed from ET the alien and near encounters of the third kind.

IMDB rating: 6.5, Rotten Tomatoes: 75%

    Men in black

    Credit: Sony Pictures

Fresh from the success of the worldwide Independence Day phenomenon, Will Smith immediately went back to working on another science fiction film about aliens, albeit with a much lighter tone and with an emphasis on comedy.

Starring alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Smith led Men in Black to huge dollars at the register, leading to two more films and an upcoming reboot starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.

The original film, however, is still the best and offers a great mix of comedy and genre-based hijinx, similar to that of Ghostbusters. Take a look now, maybe Big Willy won't let his noisy cricket get bad.

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs

In an attempt to save his struggling community, mad scientist Flint (Bill Hader) invents a machine that can turn water into food. Although the machine was initially successful, it somehow ends up in the atmosphere, bringing endless amounts of food to the city, resulting in all sorts of chaos in the process.

    Despicable Me

This animation film stars Steve Carrell as the voice of Gru, a criminal mastermind with an army of Minions to make his bid for him (if only he could make them pay attention). However, things change when Gru meets three orphan girls who see him as a father figure. Will the girls (and the minions) be able to melt the miserable heart of this grump?

    Suspiria (2018)

    Credit: Amazon Studios

Dario Argento ' s undisputed horror masterpiece recreating Suspiria would never be an easy task for director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name), but the new version is about as far removed from the original as a remake can get without to take a new name. The film is still about a dance academy governed by a witch college, but aside from that one premise, the 2018 version takes a very different direction. Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Gray) plays a completely different version of Susie Bannion, who arrives at the academy as a new student in both versions of Suspiria, and is assisted by Tilda Swinton, who excels as two separate characters. Ultimately, this version of Suspiria, produced by Amazon, is a act of love or hate it: it lacks the effective fears, brilliant music and lively cinematography of the original, but chooses to lean on the Berlin setting in the 70s to create a provide an extensive mood and background story during the recording. two and a half hours duration. If that sounds like your jam, you will find that you appreciate this remake.

    A quiet place

    Credit: Paramount Pictures

One of the best scary movies of the last couple of years, A Quiet Place sees his characters being chased by blind creatures who only hunt for sound. The only way that this young family, led by John Krasinski (Jack Ryan) and Emily Blunt (Sicario), will have any hope of survival is to remain completely silent at all times. Krasinski, who also writes and directs the film, builds tension with a masterful sense of tension – every little beep or sound can lead to the characters & apos; killing, forcing the public to sit in silence and attract attention. A Quiet Place is a kind of horror film that keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire playing time.

    The House on Sorority Row

    Credit: shock

One of the most prized slasher films from the golden age of the subgenre (1978-1984), The House on Sorority Row sees a group of girl student club sisters stalked by a murderous maniac in a court jester suit after one of their regions goes terribly wrong. With everything you can expect from a good butcher, including a high body position, shocking murders and a sex-minded young cast, The House on Sorority Row still succeeds in making you guess about the identity of the killer until the end. Make sure you get around the mediocre remake from 2009.

    Credit: Umbrella Entertainment

Probably the most bizarre horror film that adorns this list, Society is a body-horror / melt film that is different from everyone else. The Californian teenager Bill (Billy Warlock) feels that something is wrong with his rich family, and that is true: it turns out that they are actually part of an orgy-cult for the rich elite in Beverly Hills, and we wished that the most shocking discovery by Bill during the duration of the Society! With some really disgusting (and mind-killing) practical gore effects from the great Screaming Mad George (Re-Animator 2, Predator), Society is the kind of horror movie that must be seen to be believed. Not for the prudish!

I know what you did last summer

    Credit: Sony Pictures

Celebrating their high school diploma, a group of teenagers (including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe) accidentally ran into a man in the middle of the night. Convinced that their life will be over when someone discovers this incident, most of the group makes a pact to dump the body and pretend it never happened. This is of course a slasher movie, so that is easier said than done! Exactly one year after that ill-fated night, a hook-wielding killer appears and each member of the group begins to terrorize, and now it is up to Julie (Love Hewitt) to discover the murderer's identity before it's too late. Like most teenage horror movies, critics were kind enough to know what you did last summer on the first release (it was unfavorable compared to Scream, who shared the same screenwriter), but it remains a favorite for children aged 90 to this day thanks to his powerful fears and intriguing mystery.

    No country for old men

    Credit: Paramount Pictures

Javier Bardem won an Oscar for essentially playing the human personification of death in No Country For Old Men, a tight thriller from the Coen brothers (The Big Lebowski, Fargo). Every moment Bardem is on the screen, he is filled with fear as he leaves a trail of bodies across Texas looking for a missing bag of cartel money, which is owned by Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin). Can the local sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) catch up with Llewelyn before his pursuer reaches him? A film that is just as gloomy and disturbing as the novel by Cormac McCarthy on which it is based, No Country For Old Men will surely haunt you for years to come.

Without a doubt, the & apos; 90s a true golden age for serial killers, with films such as The Silence of the Lambs, Se7en and Copycat that are particularly memorable. However, there were a number of valuable gems released today that managed to slip through the cracks, with Switchback being a film that was particularly underestimated (especially by critics). Frank LaCrosse (Dennis Quaid) is an FBI agent on the trail of a vicious serial killer. Things become personal for LaCrosse when the killer kidnaps his son. Meanwhile, a drop out of the young medical school (Jared Leto) is taking a ride with a local wanderer (Danny Glover) across the American Southwest. As they travel through snowy Colorado, more corpses seem to pile up in their wake. How long before she crosses pairs of paths with LaCrosse? And will he find his boy before it's too late? Although he has established a rabid fan base because of the success of blockbuster films such as Jurassic Park, Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark, director Steven Spielberg is demonstrably at his best when tackling more mature tariff films such as Schindler's list and Saving Private Ryan can testify to that. However, there is one film in particular that is perhaps the most complex and mature of his entire career, and that film is Munich. Based on the real tragedy that took place during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where the entire Israeli team was taken hostage and then massacred by the Palestinian terrorist group Black September, the film sheds light on Israel's secret retaliation missions. Allegedly, these black operators traced undercover Mossad agents (played here by Eric Bana, Daniel Craig and Ciarán Hinds) and killed the men who were deemed responsible in a fairly public way. Instead of taking sides in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, Spielberg wonders what the wrecking costs are for the conscience and soul of an entire country, asking whether it ultimately achieves anything other than more bloodshed . A compelling film that does not shy away from the moving aspects of the story.

Tom Cruise plays completely against the type in Collateral, a fantastic thriller from visionary director Michael Mann (Heat, Miami Vice). Cruise plays Vincent, a ruthless silver hair assassin who forces Cabbie Max (Jamie Foxx) to be his personal driver for the night while roaming around in Los Angeles to take targets. Can Max make it alive from this situation? Or will he end up being Vincent's last victim? Using special digital cameras to capture LA ' at night in all its gritty glory, Mann achieves a sense of realism that makes you feel like you are there with the characters. Full of action and excitement, Collateral is a perfectly crafted thriller that shows a much narrower side of Cruise than we are used to seeing.

Like movies with police that haunts robbers? What about stoic professional criminals in sharp gray suits? Well, you'll probably absolutely love Heat, a film by acclaimed director Michael Mann (Collateral, Manhunter). As the first film that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino put together on the screen (The Godfather Part II does not count), Heat is understandably known for its powerful performances. De Niro plays Neil McCauley, a career criminal whose series of high-profile bank robberies and armored car thefts in Los Angeles placed him square in the Lt area. Vincent Hanna (Pacino). Somehow the couple's cat and mouse hunt comes to an end – the only question is which man will ever be left when he / she is over? With Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd, Tom Sizemore and Natalie Portman among others, Heat is also a must-see crime film classic.

The Godfather & The Godfather Part II

    Credit: Paramount Pictures

Two of the greatest films of all time, Francis Ford Coppola & apos; The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The first film shows the rise of Micheal Corleone (Al Pacino), a war hero who takes over the crime dynasty of his family after an attempt at the life of his father, Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando). The successor, The Godfather Part II, functions as a prequel and sequel at the same time, and shows us how a young Vito (Robert De Niro) came to power, while continuing the story of Michael from the first film. Both films swept the Oscars in their respective years, and it is not hard to understand why – The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are undisputed masterpieces, each telling grand, ambitious stories about major themes on an epic canvas. You would find it hard to find two finer examples of the power of cinema.

    The social network

    Credit: Sony Pictures

Perhaps the best movie ever made about the tech industry, The Social Network tells the story of the first days of Facebook, with an enchanting Jesse Eisenberg playing the CEO ' s of the company, Mark Zuckerberg, and Andrew Garfield with the lead role as co-founder, Eduardo Saverin. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) is known for his fast-talking, funny characters, and he really surpasses himself here, giving Eisenberg smarter verbal barbs than the real Zuckerberg is probably capable of (no Sweet Baby Ray ' s or smoked Breast discussions can be found here). That said, it all comes down to an immensely gripping film that is directed with timepiece-like precision by visionary author David Fincher (Zodiac, Fight Club). Cast in some impressive supporting turns from Justin Timberlake (as Napster founder Sean Parker) and Armie Hammer (who both play Winklevoss twins) and you have an ' honest-to-goodness ' classic.

    Taxi driver

    Credit: Sony Pictures

Few films in the history of cinema are as powerful as the masterpiece of Martin Scorsese, taxi driver. Made in the mid-1970s, when New York was a rougher, more dirty place, the film practically exudes a confused, neon-bathed atmosphere of its own. Robert De Niro plays Travis Bickle, a troubled, lonely Vietnam veteran who takes a gig in a taxi because he just can't sleep at night. Though disgusted by the sloppy, unsound ways of the Big Apple, Travis doesn't seem to stay away from his seedier areas, pick up dubious rates in poor neighborhoods, and visit porn scenes trying to cure his insomnia. . After a failed attempt to establish a normal relationship with political campaign worker Betsy (Cybill Shepherd), Travis meets a 12-year-old prostitute named Iris (Jodie Foster) while trying to run away from her despicable pimp, Sport (Harvey Keitel) ). With his aversion over the edge, Travis gives up firearms and channels his immense anger and hatred in a mission to save Iris from her tragic circumstances. Fantastic directed and acted, and with the late, great Bernard Hermann & apos; s enduring end score, Taxi Driver is a movie that every cinema enthusiast should see.

To raise money for his stepfather's operation, Rod works with his stepbrother (Taccone) and friends (Bill Hader, Danny McBride and Isla Fisher) to organize a huge stunt that would try to jump him over 12 buses on a moped. Quirky, citable and filled with off-the-wall moments (including an incredible montage on John Farnham's You & apos; re the Voice & apos;), Hot Rod is a comic cult classic created by critics at the time of release , but will only increase in popularity as the years pass.
