DC Universe: DC ‘ s new TV and comic book flow service explained

DC Universe has arrived – but what is it, and why should fans of DC comics, TV shows, and movies be excited?

We have seen a wave of streaming services based on individual channels or network families, from HBO Now at CBS All Access and even ESPN +, but soon we will see more content and offers from companies – Disney & apos; s long-term streaming service which will arrive on November 12, 2019, with exclusive Star Wars shows and more, is a good example.

DC has now officially launched its own subscription-based service for fans of the legendary comic company, and it has a twist: it is not only a streaming video service for films and TV shows based on their comics, but also a comic strip. -reading app along the lines of Marvel Unlimited or comiXology Unlimited. Here & apos; s what you need to know.

[Updated: DC Universe will be available on the Xbox One family of devices starting in April 2019. The service will roll out starting on April 15, around the same time as the premier of  Justice League vs. The Fatal Five. Like other platforms, DC Universe on Xbox One will cost you $7.99 per month or $74.99 per year, and includes all 20,000 of the comics available on the service.]

What content does DC Universe have?

DC Universe will debut five brand new exclusive TV shows during the first year of its existence, starting with Titans. The first trailer was unveiled at Comic-Con and shows an intensely dark and grainy adaptation, complete with unbridled blood and a shot from Robin saying "F — Batman" while lying in a gang of street criminals.

Later in the first year we will see Live Action shows Doom Patrol and Marsh thing (not the 1990-93 version), as well as exclusive animation series Young Justice: Outsiders and Harley Quinn.

The service also includes new HD versions of Batman: The Animated Series and the Wonder Woman TV series along with animated films such as Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Live action movies love sitter, Superman: The Movie, Batman Returns, and Batman forever are also spotted on the website and in the first trailer.

Unfortunately, there is no prospect of newer films such as Wonder Woman and Justice League, let alone The Dark Knight Trilogy, while TV series such as the current Arrow, The flash, and Legends of Tomorrow seems to be MIA. The current series are all on Netflix.

Regarding comic books, The edge reports that DC Universe will contain around 2,000-3,000 digital comics, with images suggesting a scattered mix of old and new books with famous characters. The site report claims that you can zoom in on a single panel on a 4K TV to view the artwork with incredible clarity.

Where can I approach DC Universe?

Hopefuls from DC Universe have access to the streaming service on different devices and media players. So there is a simple online browser for one – and also associated apps to view DC content Roku streaming devices, Android TV, Apple TV, Android and iOS mobile devices and now also Amazon Fire TV devices. You can also add Xbox One to that list from April 2019.

However, you can only access the service in the United States. There's no word about when DC Universe could roll out to other territories – it's only a few months old, to be honest – although the live Titans live TV show is coming to Netflix UK, we hope DC will keep an eye out sails over the potential audience that they could find worldwide.

How much does DC Universe cost?

When DC Universe goes live this fall, the service will cost you $ 7.99 per month. If you choose to grow up and do a whole year, you save a considerable amount of money: the annual costs are $ 74.99, saving you 20% a month.

Already sold to the service? If you already order an annual subscription, they throw three free months to sweeten the deal, plus you participate in a contest to win two tickets for the deal. Aquarius film premiere later this year.

And if you prefer to wait, DC Universe offers a free 7-day trial once it's live.

How does DC Universe differ from other streaming services?

The hybrid nature makes it different from other services. There are of course many streaming video services, but Netflix and CBS All Access do not contain comic books. Likewise, there are comic books for everyone you can read, such as Marvel Unlimited and comiXology Unlimited, but those apps don't have a lick of video about them.

It always seemed surprising that DC did not launch its own view of Marvel Unlimited and opened the vault for a monthly fee, but now we know why. That said, the comic selection in DC Universe is much, much smaller: the expected range of 2,000-3,000 books is a fraction of the 20,000+ comics from Marvel Unlimited.

But in the first place you get half of the one service and the other half. Netflix starts at $ 7.99 and Marvel Unlimited costs $ 9.99 per month, while DC Universe splits the difference.

Ultimately, we suspect that DC Universe is not primarily viewed as a video app for streaming or a comic app. Instead, it is the ultimate all-in DC experience app for serious fans, with movies, TV series, comics, conversation, info, and merch on demand.

Do I have to subscribe to DC Universe?

Do you love Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and the rest of DC's top heroes and villains? Do you follow the countless DC TV series that are broadcast these days and still wish there was more to see every week? Would you like to go back to old-school DC animated and live-action series?

If you use ' yes ' have responded to one of those points, you probably want to sign up for DC Universe. Admittedly, we have not yet used the app and we do not know how well it will perform as a streaming service or comic reading experience, but assuming that the technical benchmarks are cleared and the amount of content delivered that has been promised so far, then we imagine DC fans eating it.

Of course, the disadvantage of such a targeted service is the possibility to no longer have attractive content in a compelling way. Is DC willing to continue these original shows for several seasons? Will the company also employ the more recent films? And will the composition of the cured strips grow, or at least see a frequent turnover?

It is too early to know for sure, but with five potentially immersive shows that anchor the service and many other content from the past, DC Universe seems to be the real deal for DC believers.
