Google Stages Pro subscribers receive ' about one free game per month '

It is not long before Google Stages were launched in November 2019 and to remove some uncertainties about what the streaming service will offer, product director Andrey Doronichev enlisted the help of Reddit for an AMA.

One of the biggest misunderstandings resolved during the interrogation is whether the Google Stages Pro subscription is a kind of ' Netflix for games ' is because the Google Stages website refers to ' an ever-expanding library of free games & # 39 ;. . "It is absolutely not.

"A further comparison is similar to Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus," explains Doronichev. "The Pro subscribers get 4K / HDR streaming, 5.1 sound, exclusive discounts and access to a number of free games. Roughly give or take one free game per month. Starting with Destiny 2 (yay!)."

    Not Netflix

If Pro subscribers want other games on top of the free monthly game, they pay the full price for them on top of their subscription of £ 8.99 / $ 9.99 per month, although there are some exclusive discounts from Stadia Pro to sweeten the deal .

If you sign out and later subscribe to Pro again, you will get access to the free games you claimed during your subscription, but you missed the games that were free when you signed out. So, if you want that free access to Destiny 2, it's better to make sure you get there at the launch.

If you are looking for support for Stadium Base, the free version of the service launched in 2020, you expect, not surprisingly, free games or exclusive discounts.

When the Stadium Pro is launched this year, all the basic functionalities of the service, including the game store, the ability to play on multiple devices and some built-in social functions, are in use. But there is a post-launch pipeline for more functions.

In the future, for example, Google will seek support for more devices, including smartphones (the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a will be the only phones supported at launch) and streaming boxes.

It is also worth noting that Stadia controllers do not work with Bluetooth headsets at startup. There will be a temporary solution where players using a Google Chrome browser or a Pixel 3 phone can connect their headset to their laptop or phone instead. Otherwise, there is still a headphone jack on the controller for wired headsets until the Bluetooth support is expanded.

Despite this AMA, there are still questions about Google Stages in the game world. But Google is trying to make it clear that it is committed to game streaming in the long term and appeals to people looking for the freedom to play the latest games without downloads, updates or hardware limitations.
