There have already been rumors that Facebook has prepared a new Portal device that streams media to your television set, and a new report fills in some details about the gadget, which will be launched before the end of the year.
Sources that speak to Variety have backed up claims that a media streaming device is indeed underway, a device that does not have its own screen, but attaches to the larger screen in your living room.
The original Facebook Portal and Portal + devices focused on audio and video calls via the Facebook platform and the new box is tipped to add extra functionality while maintaining those original functions.

Third-party content, such as Netflix and Disney, could be consolidated into one central interface, Variety says, perhaps with the same approach as the Oculus TV app running on Facebook ' s VR headsets.
The box may come with its own set of integrated speakers, according to sources, so you don't necessarily have to rely on the speakers built into your TV.
Finally, Variety reports that augmented reality filters – such as those available in Facebook Messenger and on the original Portal devices – will be included again, which should at least increase the attraction for the children.
It now seems certain that more portal hardware is on its way from Facebook – and whatever form it takes, it should be in time for the Christmas rush.
