There are only a few days until we have a good look at the iPhone 11 handsets for 2019, so it is of course time to launch the iPhone 12 rumor roller coaster for 2020 – and noted that Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already made predictions.
9to5Mac reports that Kuo expects a "completely new form factor design" for the 2020 iPhones, so it can say goodbye to the notch in the display and various other pieces of iPhone style that we have become accustomed to.
The other two major upgrades, according to Kuo, are the addition of 5G support (something previously pointed out) and "camera function upgrades," which we would expect in a new iPhone.
- What we expect from the Apple Watch 5
- The Pixel 4 competes with the iPhone 11
- The very best technology that we saw at IFA 2019
Exactly what those camera upgrades will be, we are not entirely sure – although analysts have previously said that time-of-flight (ToF) sensors could appear in the rear cameras of the 2020 models, which helps with adding depth and focus side effects.
iPhones 11 and 12
We can also stand in line for changes to the screen format next year: 5.45 inches for the standard iPhone 12 (from 5.8 inches), 6.7 inches for the larger version (from 6.5 inches) and 6.1 inches for what the 2020 version of the iPhone XR is (the same as now).
And the flagship iPhone 12 handsets may not be the only new phones that Apple will release in 2020 – the momentum is growing behind rumors about an iPhone SE 2 launch at some point early next year, for those who prefer a smaller form factor.
Finally another rumor we heard next year – the introduction of 120Hz refresh rates on the screens, for super fast and super smooth scrolling. Next year's iPhones could be quite the upgrade.
In the meantime, all eyes are on Apple on Tuesday, September 10, when the iPhones of 2019 appear – square rear camera and everything. As always we bring you all the news as it is announced here on TechRadar.
