The iPhone 11 Pro has a new triple lens and night mode

Apple has just announced three new iPhones: the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

And as usual, these iPhones come with new cameras & new camera technology.

But will these new smartphones be attractive to photographers? And if you are looking for a new smartphone, do you need an iPhone 11 Pro?

    Read on to find out.

    The iPhone 11 Pro camera

    First things first:

Although Apple has announced three new iPhones, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Max are basically identical except for the screen size. That is why both the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max have the same camera specifications:

    Three cameras ' s.

    An improved front camera.

    Deep Fusion technology.

    Let's take a closer look:

iPhone 11 Pro: a setup with three cameras ' s

The three camera ' s design is Apple's first outing that goes beyond their (now standard) two camera ' s installation. The iPhone 11 Pro has a telephoto lens (52 mm equivalent), a wide-angle lens (26 mm equivalent) and an ultra wide-angle lens (13 mm equivalent). The new camera (the ultra wide angle) should make it possible to take beautiful landscape photos, or simply to get a broader field of vision when taking group portraits and event photography.

While the wide-angle and telephoto lenses contain optical image stabilization, the ultra-wide-angle lens does not. This should not be a major problem because camera shake is less visible with wider lenses. But it's nice to have a bit of image stabilization, especially for night shots.

    And talking about night photography:

Apple has finally added a night mode to the camera setup of the smartphone. This will supposedly magnify the details in night photos, making it possible to produce less noisy images in almost darkness. Given the poor performance of iPhones ' at night, this is a feature that Apple phones desperately need.

Unfortunately we have to wait and see if the regular recording mode of the iPhone 11 Pro will have improved low light options. However, I am not holding my breath. The low light performance of the iPhone XS is bleak in low light compared to competitors such as the Google Pixel 3, and there is no evidence of a significantly improved sensor on the iPhone 11 Pro.

While the iPhone 11 Pro rear camera ' s are all on 12 megapixels, the front camera sees an upgrade from 8 megapixels (in the XS) to 12 megapixels. The lens has also been widened. I don't recommend using the front camera for serious photography, but it's nice to take some higher resolution selfies and wider selfie group photos.

    The iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 is the successor of the cheaper iPhone XR from Apple.

Fortunately, it offers a remarkable camera upgrade: from a single wide-angle lens, the iPhone 11 now has both a wide-angle and an ultra-wide-angle lens.

It also includes night mode, which makes shooting in low light (hopefully) easier.

    Deep Fusion technology

The most intriguing aspect of the new iPhone camera ' s is the promise of a Deep Fusion technology. This should work on all new iPhones, including the iPhone 11.

Although this feature is not rolled out until after the iPhones have been released (in a software update), Apple claims that this new technology allows your iPhone to create, process and create a final image optimized for detail at the same time. , noise and dynamic range.

If the feature is as impressive as Apple claims, then we have a lot to look forward to.

The iPhone 11 Pro: do you have to buy it?

If you are a serious smartphone photographer, you want the iPhone 11 Pro over the iPhone 11. Without a doubt. It offers the extra telecamera, which you will certainly appreciate if you ever want to take portraits or street photos.

But how does the iPhone 11 Pro view its competition?

Personally, I would wait to get the iPhone 11 Pro until you see what Google will release this fall. The iPhone 11 Pro, with its triple camera ' s and promise of Deep Fusion technology, is attractive. But Apple is currently lagging behind Google in terms of low light options. And you don't want to buy a new smartphone, but just wish you had waited a little longer for the Pixel 4.

The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max can be reserved from Friday 13 September.

What do you think of Apple's new smartphone camera ' s? Are you buying an iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro, or are you waiting to see the Google Pixel 4? Share your opinion in the comments!
